Federalist, Democratic-Republican, and Whig
Term: March 4, 1825-March 4, 1829
Vice President: John C. Calhoun

John Quincy Adams, son of President John Adams, became America's sixth president on March fourth, 1825. He is not not a very famous for his presidency because he did not accomplish too many objectives. However, Adams was not a terrible president and he did not do too many things wrong. So Adams deserves the average grade, a C, because he did not do anything great or anything too horrible.

John Quincy Adams main goal for his presidency, was to make internal improvements in America. He wanted to build many things, such as roads, canals, a national university, and an astronomical observatory. Some of these proposals were not put into progress because of the short amount of support Adams received from Congress. However, he achieved some of his goals by building several canals, such as the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, the Delawear and Chesapeake Canal, and the Portland to Louisville Canal. He also achieved the extension of the Cumberland Road into Ohio. Another goal that Adams had was to create a regionally specialized economy, which he achieved by supporting the "American System."

President Adams did not have a very friendly relationship with congress. A lot of the Jacksonians in Congress were upset with what happened in the election of 1824, so they opposed a lot of his proposals for internal improvements.Statistically speaking the senate was controlled by the Jacksonians with 26 members over 22 and the House of Representatives was in favor of Adams with 109 representatives over 104. Later in 1827, Adams lost control of congress, with Jacksonians controlling both houses, which made everything even more difficult for him.

The most positive objective that the Adams administration accomplished was that they made many internal improvements to the nation. this is the greatest accomplishment for them because Adams only served one term and could not do much with it. So, this was obviously Adams most positive outcome. The most negative outcome of Adams presidency was the tariff of Abominations. This protected tariff angered many colonists and caused many problems for Adams.

Adams bettered the nation through his internal improvements. It helped the nation become what it is today. With out all of those canals and improvements to roads, the economy probably would not have improved the way it did. These roads and canals helped improve trade and bettered the nation in the long run.

In conclusion, President Adams deserves a C because he did not do much due to only having one term. He did not do too many things right, and it did not do too many things wrong, So it's obvious that Adams deserves the average C.
